v1.12.0

Fillets and chamfers that keep the size you enter

Large fillets and chamfers no longer stop at a short side face: they keep the size you enter, and crossings with earlier finishes and holes are worked out for you.

Before & after

The collar rim keeps the 12 mm you enter

Earlier actual app output: the Fillet card refuses 12 mm on the collar's top outer rim and offers 9 mm instead.Updated actual app output: the Fillet card shows Completed 1 at 12 mm, with the round previewed around the collar's top outer rim.BeforeAfter
Before, 12 mm on the 10 mm-tall collar was refused and 9 mm was offered. Now it completes at 12 mm.Drag to compare · arrow keys work too

A part shaped with fillets

The raised collar rounded into a rolled ring by three large fillets, sitting on the unchanged gold seal.
Outer 12 mm, inner 25 mm and bottom 5 mm fillets on the collar, cut against each other automatically. The gold seal below is unchanged.

Shape a part with large fillets

A fillet larger than the side face beside its edge now stays tangent to the face that has room, uses up the short face, and stops sharply at the next one. Several large finishes on one part are cut against each other automatically.

  1. In 3D, choose Fillet and pick Smooth chain.
  2. Tap a rim of the part, for example the top outer rim of the Aurelia turbine's Raised through-bore collar.
  3. Enter a Radius larger than the side face, such as 12 mm on the 10 mm collar. The card shows Completed 1.
  4. Choose Confirm, then repeat on the inner and bottom rims to round the part further.

Improved

  • Fillets and chamfers on square outer corners and circular rims keep the size you enter, even when it is taller than the side face beside the edge. The finish uses up that face and ends with a sharp edge at the next one, where it used to be refused or shrunk.
  • Large finishes that run into earlier fillets, chamfers or holes on the same part meet them in a sharp crease, in either order. On the Aurelia turbine's raised collar, a 12 mm outer rim, a 25 mm inner rim and a 5 mm bottom rim now shape the collar into one rolled ring.
  • The Fillet and Chamfer cards say when a finish removes the whole named part or splits it into pieces. Confirm stays available, every remaining piece is kept, and Undo restores the part. Finishing one part never changes any other part.
  • A large fillet or chamfer that only touches a hole at a single point now completes and keeps the hole, as a groove that closes to that point. Parts that touch at a single corner can also be combined, and STL files with that shape now import.
  • When a finish still can't be made at the size you enter, the card suggests the largest size that works instead of a much smaller one.
  • Finishes on the walls of holes and slots, wavy rims and angled corners keep their existing fit-to-size behavior. Sizes below the drawing's precision can still be refused.
