v1.17.1

Fast runs every water demo through

On Fast, water that splashes out of the simulated region is now removed and counted, as on Accurate, so the open box and the particle game run through to the end.

Spotlight

The open box runs to the end on Fast

The Simulate workspace with the open glass box partly filled with blue water, a few drops outside it, and the run bar reading 1.00 of 1.00 s, Done, Physics OK.
Open box with a water source at Coarse size on Fast: the run reaches 1.00 s with Done · Physics OK. Drops that splash past the region's edge are removed and counted under Left the scene.

Everything in this release

Fixed

  • Fast removes material that leaves the simulated region through an open side and counts it under Details › Left the scene (particles and grams), as Accurate does. Before, the first splash to leave stopped the run after about a second, so the Open box with a water source and the Particle game could only run through on Accurate.
  • The energy check counts what left as taken out of the scene: a splash that leaves below its starting height no longer reads as an energy gain.
  • The Scene panel, Details › Simulated region and the ⓘ next to the Engine switch now say that material leaving the region is removed and counted on Fast too.
  • Behind the scenes: water sources without gravity converge on Fast (the water's pressure solve takes its accuracy from the speeds in the run), and the engine's checks of how deep water settles in a container now ignore drops still in flight. Work on bringing water fully to rest and seating solids on parts continues; on Fast, water in a filled box still creeps slightly and a ball still rests about one particle cell above a steel plate, as the ⓘ says.

Other improvements

  • Fast removes material that leaves the simulated region through an open side and counts it under Details › Left the scene, as Accurate does, so the Open box with a water source and the Particle game now run through to the end on Fast instead of stopping after about a second. The energy check counts what left as taken out, not as a gain.
