Solids rest and water settles on Fast
On Fast, a solid now rests on the part it lands on, and water poured into a box settles within a quarter of a cell of its height and stays in the box. The Particle game runs through to the end, and the Open box and Ball drop demos run faster.
The rubber ball rests on the steel plate on Fast

Everything in this release
Improved
- A solid comes to rest on a fixed part on Fast. In the Ball drop demo the rubber ball now rests on the steel plate instead of about one 8 mm cell above it. Its first rebound peaks at 70.6 mm (Accurate: 68.2 mm) and it bounces back off the upright. It still rolls less than a real ball would, which the ⓘ next to the Engine switch states with the measured numbers.
- Water poured into a box settles at the right height on Fast. Before, it stood about one particle cell too high, with a loose top layer. Now it settles 0.1 to 0.3 of a cell above the height its mass fills, 0.2 of a cell in the Open box demo at Coarse and Medium sizes.
- Water in a box comes close to rest on Fast and stays in it. In the Open box demo at Coarse size, the water in the box moves at about 6 mm/s 2.5 s after the start, and none leaves the box. At 6.4 mm cells it moves at about 16 mm/s (70 mm/s before), and 4 of its 4,832 particles splash out (about 1,200 before). A little motion goes on, so Settled? can still read Still moving.
- The Particle game runs through to the end on Fast. When a water volume correction would move the water more than its measured error can justify, Fast now skips that frame's correction and measures again in the next frame, instead of stopping the run. Details shows the count as Volume corrections skipped (1 of 1,000 frames in the Particle game at Coarse size, none in the Open box demo). Water crowding that skipped corrections leave behind still stops the run.
- Speed on Fast (Mac Studio M5 Max): the Ball drop demo runs about a third faster and the Open box demo with its water source about 40 % faster. The lab dam break runs about 6 % slower, because its sand now rests on the floor instead of just above it. The Particle game runs about 2.5 % slower.
- The ⓘ next to the Engine switch (Less exact on Fast) shows the new measured numbers for filling, rest, pouring and solids on parts.
Other improvements
- On Fast, a solid such as the Ball drop's rubber ball now rests on the steel instead of about one cell above it. Water poured into a box settles within a quarter of a cell of the height its mass fills (it stood about a cell too high), comes close to rest, and stays in the box. Boxes and the Particle game run through on Fast: a volume correction Fast cannot justify is skipped and counted under Details instead of stopping the run. The Ball drop and the Open box run faster on Fast; the lab dam break about 6 % and the Particle game about 2.5 % slower.
